NATIONAL FOREST CONTRIBUTION TO GLOBAL CARBON CYCLE

Indicator monitoring carbon stock, i.e. the quantity of carbon fixed in Italy in the various forest reservoirs, and variation in carbon stock (carbon sink), which takes into account the carbon absorbed and the quantity released (emissions) due to fires, withdrawals and natural mortality of national forest ecosystems. The indicator provides an estimate of the carbon fixing capacity of Italian forests and their role in climate change mitigation strategies and the achievement of international commitments, from the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement, and in the context of EU commitments of the 2030 Climate and Energy Framework.
