The Government of Latvia has delegated Latvia’s State Forest Research Institute „Silava” (LSFRI „Silava”) to do Forest resource Statistic Inventory (FSI) within the National Forest Monitoring programme. This is due to the fact that the State Register of Forests - SRF (Meža valsts re?istru - MVR), which is facilitated and updated by the State Forest Service - SFS (Valsts meža dienests - VMD), also performs an 'inventory', however the SRF inventory does not represent 100% of Latvia’s forests. There are about 200-300 thousand ha forests not inventoried in the SRF (MVR). The Central Statistical Bureau - CSB (Centr?lo statistikas p?rvaldi - CSP) used the official SRF forest figures for the forest statistics up to 2008. For 2009 onwards CSB uses the figures from the Forest Statistics Inventory (FSI): 2009 figures from FSI Cycle I: 2004-2008 and 2014 figures are representing the FSI Cycle II: 2009-2014.
