Flanders: Preparation of an analysis pattern for the data of the Flemish Forest Inventory

The forest inventory of Flanders (VBI) provides information on status and trends of forest and supports forest policy in Flanders. VBI is managed by the Nature and Forest Agency (ANB). ANB is also responsible for analyzing the results of VBI. The purpose of this report is the development of a semi-automated analysis process to support the technical reporting of results using appropriate analyzing techniques. The analysis process consists of following steps: (1) a validation process based on trees measured in both inventories, (2) construction of a database with variables derived from the raw data and variables describing the measurement process, (3) selection of the set of variables which is needed to analyze a specific monitoring target, (4) the actual analysis to answer the questions related to the monitoring target and (5) saving analysis results in a database.
