Forests and woody crops are a source of energy through the conversion of woody biomass into convenient solid, liquid or gaseous fuels to provide energy for industrial, commercial or domestic use. Primary sources wood as well as side streams from wood processing industry are used to generate heat, steam and electric power. The figure below shows an excerpt of this energy prodcution as the development in shares of primar solid fuels in total electricity and derived heat production, as well as the share of primary solid fuels in total renewables on a national level.
