The Fifth Dutch National Forest Inventory (MFV - Meetnet Functievervulling bos) was needed towards year 2000, as the Forth Forest Inventory (1980-1983) has lost its actuality. The new Multifunctional Forest Inventory Network was designed in 1999, tested in 2000, and carried out subsequently. The Forest Inventory Network consists of 3622 sampling plots. In 2001-2005, these plots were inventoried for forestry and ecologically.
