This Report gives an overview on the methodology applied by the Forestry Commission for the National Inventory of woodlands and trees during the preriod of 1995-1999. It addresses shortly the history of woodland surveys in Great Britain to lead to the insight on Statistical Aspects, Pilot Surveys and the range of methodologies applied to prepare for data gathering, field work and data handling and analysis in the aftermath of the survey. It finally addresses some key results and their comparison to the previsous survey results.
